Members of a miniatures club are celebrating after scooping the top prize of a Dolls House Emporium Stratford Bakery for their fabulous street scene of a Diamond Jubilee celebration.

The Club Competition run by Dolls House and Miniature Scene was won by ladies from the Galloway Miniatures Group in Scotland.

Their winning entry is pictured below but you can visit the magazine’s own gallery online for more views of this stunning diorama and see the other top entries from groups around the UK. There’s also more information in the July edition.

The distinctive Stratford Bakery Kit, an authentic Tudor-style building in 1:12 scale, is on its way to Sue, Pat, Flo, Irene, Elaine and Betty.

It is designed as a merchant’s premises and features a covered area for markets or community events. Other features include a jettied first floor, pre-assembled doors, leaded windows and external steps to first floor. The building measures 590 x 700 x 500mm.

The Dolls’ House Emporium’s own Stratford Bakery on display at its Derbyshire HQ has been transformed in to Dickens’ ‘Old Curiosity Shop’ with a cluttered, intriguing interior full of trinkets and treasures.

The Galloway Miniatures Group ladies spend a lot of time raising money for church funds and other charities, as well as visiting care centres and residential homes to show off the results of their hard work.

The colourful winning scene is to be exhibited at Stranraer Museum as part of the town’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

DHMS publishing editor Lucie Roper said: “Thank you for everyone who took part in the competition and watch this space for more news on the second and third place clubs… these will be revealed in the August issue of Dolls House and Miniature Scene.”

Kick-start your dolls’ house hobby with this easy-build project: Popular dolls’ house building project Amber House is now available in kit form for the very first time.

Best-known as the perfect solution for collectors who want a quick-start to their hobby, it will continue to be available fully painted outside and wallpapered inside, so you can get going inside an hour.

But now The Dolls House Emporium is offering more flexibility so you can start from scratch and put your own stamp on this wonderfully versatile property, for under £100.

It is one of 30 dolls’ house projects from The Dolls House Emporium in 1:12 scale, with a range of more than 2,500 miniature furniture and accessories to bring it to life and start you off on a hobby that will offer hours – and in many cases years – of interest and fun as things progress.

Whichever format you choose for Amber House – kit form, fully-finished or as a built house – with six rooms on three floors you can select furniture and accessories to suit your mood.

It is an ideal starter for the young collector or beginner and collectors have turned Amber House into modern or period properties with interiors to match.

You could follow the romanticism of the Brontë Parsonage: make it bright and funky, or set your creativity free on a personal interior design scheme inspired by displays from the free 220-page catalogue or the website at www.dollshouse.com

The six-room house is an ideal starter for the young collector or beginner and conjures up thoughts of the Brontë sisters’ house at Howarth, in Yorkshire, where they produced some of their finest work more than 150 years ago. It’s a homely and atmospheric Georgian building in a village set in the wild moorland beyond. The museum there today is full of their furniture, clothes and some personal possessions, which we have imagined in 1:12 scale for this project illustration.

The young sisters lived at The Parsonage between 1820 and 1861. Charlotte’s novel Jane Eyre (1847), Emily’s Wuthering Heights (1847), and Anne’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848) were written in this house. They remain some of the best-loved books in the English language.
